Slacker Salvation

Card1 Card2

Are you like me and looking at that loooong list of knitted gifts that haven't quite flown off the needles and likewise checking the calendar mumbling, "there's just NO WAY it's December 8th already..."?

Well Knitty has offered a reprieve! Tardy Knitter Holiday Cards! They come in 2 styles and are a perfect way to let the recipient know that either the gift is on its way... or to forget it completely.

Each pack comes with 6 of the same style card for $14.00 per pack.
To order, check out the Knitty Shop. The cards can be found here.

Guest Blogger: Vickie Howell

My blog has been hijacked for the day!! Enjoy the following post from Knitty Gritty host Vickie Howell:

"Hey there Stella and Stellaland readers!

Thank you so much for letting me stop by your virtual neck of the woods.  I must admit, I'm fairly new to the whole blog phenomenon but really love the voice it allows all of us at home to have.  Community is one of my absolute favorite things about the knitting world most of which, for me at least, has been created through on-line groups and forums similar to blogs like this one.  Some of my dearest friends across the nation were brought into my life because of our common interest (read: obsession) in yarn and for that, I'm eternally grateful.

I tried to carry over that sense of community into my book, New Knits on the Block, by including designs from contributors who I've either met in person (on Knitty Gritty or at Stitch n' Bitch Meetings) or through the world wide web.  Doing that, I hope, brought enough project diversity to the book that there's a little somethin' for everyone who has a kiddo in their life.  If you happen to be in the market for a pattern to knit a super hero cape, bowling set, princess hat or even a robot jammie holder --well then, New Knits on the Block may just be the book for you.  Check it out in stores or on-line.

Psst…Want a signed copy?  No problem!  Just swing on by the books page at www.vickiehowell.com and click "Snag it"!

Happy Knitting, everyone!

Xo, Vickie Howell

P.S.  I'm totally ordering some of that Dyed-in-the-Wool Wine—thanks Stella, for turning me on to it!"

Loop - Islington, London

Loop_ukI spent the Thanksgiving holidays in the UK... it was a good excuse to get away for a little while and since my family lives in Florida and I'll be heading down there for the Christmas Holidays, I didn't have any of that family pressure to spend the long weekend with anyone in particular.

On my list of places to check out was Loop. They are located in Islington and I had a few other destinations in that neighborhood, so stopping by fit right in my plan.

A short walk from the Angel tube station and I found the shop tucked away off Essex Road. Warm lighting and beautiful yarns greeted me when I walked in the door. It's a small space and there was a woman with a baby in a stroller shopping as well, so it was a tight squeeze. I made my way around the shop and spotted the familiar Noro, Colinette and Rowan yarns. I browsed the book selection, but was most impressed with the variety of already knit pieces and knitting related items for sale.

The samples were gorgeous; baby sweaters, booties, blankets, cashmere gloves and a set of earthenware vases that looked like they had been pressed into knitted fiber, giving them a knitted texture. Pretty cool, but not something I thought I could easily transport back to the States without a total disaster.

The shop has a nice space out in front with a table and chairs, which I would imagine to be quite lovely to sit and knit when the weather is nice.
