Hourglass Sweater

Dscf2520
Hourglass Sweater (body)

I started knitting the Hourglass Sweater at the beginning of the year, but had a few gifts to knit that took over my knitting time. Now that they are done (just in time for Christmas knitting, right?) I can spend a little more time on the Hourglass.

I finished the body and started working on the first sleeve. The pattern calls for 12" circulars and since I have a Denise circular kit, I had a 12" circular to use. (I did get a little cocky and try 16" circs, which were way too long to join, before I remembered I had the Denise kit.)

The problem is, with the 12" circs, I can barely get the needles together to knit the stitches because the tips are so long and aren't flexible!

Do I suck it up and try to find 12" addi circs? Do they even make them? (I know my LYS doesn't carry them.)
Do I switch to DPNs?

Having to knit TWO sleeves at a snail's pace pretty much guarantees I won't be wearing the sweater THIS fall!

What would you do?

Switch to dpns... you'll be happier with them, it'll move faster, and you'll get to wear it sooner. Or get a longer cable and act like it's Magic Loop or something.

Personally, I prefer dpns.

Yes, Addi makes 12" dpns. I use them all the time.

I second what Kae says . . . get a long circ and do those sleeves magic-loop style! OR you could use two circs, if you have two the same size.

I don't comment much, but here I am with my two cents- I'd switch to using two circs. For me it's quicker. If I didn't do that, then definitely DPNs, as I dislike even using 16 inch circulars.

Once upon a time, I loved DPNs and magic looping. I always said I'd never use a 12" circ. Then my LYS started carrying 12" Addis, and I was in love!

We carry 12 inch addis at my store, but I find them too difficult to manuever. I used to use dpns for a sleeve, but since I learned to do socks on two circs, that's what I use for everything now. Magic loop will work too, but personally I'm happier with two circs. There, I've managed to repeat what everyone else said, and you've probably already decided what you'll do. :)

I see you already moved to DPNs, but my preference for stuff like this is two circular needles. This got much more affordable when I got some KnitPicks Options needles. They're interchangeable, as smooth and warm as Addis, a little pointier (great for lace or knitting small yarns on big needles) and a lot less expensive. I use them for just about everything now.
