I spent all day this past Saturday in Maryland at the Sheep & Wool Festival. I am an avid knitter and try to spend as much time knitting or at fiber related events as I do eating at restaurants or cooking. It makes me even happier when my culinary passion mixes with my fiber passion. The MDSW fest was no exception. Amidst the carnival food options, a whole new world opened up... deep fried twinkies.
I had no idea what to expect. A twinkie is already pretty cake-like. Would batter dipping it make it heavier? Would it be tremendously greasy? Do you eat it with a knife and fork? All my questions were quickly answered.
I ordered 1 fried twinkie ($3.00) with powdered sugar. Other choices included cinnamon, strawberry syrup or hot fudge.
It arrived on a paper bed with a stick(!) making it portable. One bite and I was in heaven. It tasted like freshly baked cake with warm icing. Truly an interesting concept. The inside was all hot and melty.
The idea was for me to share it with my two festival companions, but I think they saw how much I was enjoying it and left me to my own devices.

here's to trying something new!
