25th of Every Month | May

DSCF4107
I totally forgot about taking photos on the 25th until Emmie came over at lunchtime. I hadn't had my coffee or breakfast yet, so I started the day from there.  You can see the rest of my photos over at Flickr. Just click the badge below.

Favorite {Photo} Friday! (#2)

It's time for my 2nd Favorite Photo! Are you ready??

Dscf0941
This is Scarlett. She's my 2005 Chili Red/black MINI Cooper. That's right, she has a name. She also has a lot of other MINI friends (250 at this event!!). This was at an annual MINI event called MINIs on Top that takes place @ Mt. Washington in New Hampshire in June. This photo was not taken by me, but was published in the only MINI related magazine in the US called MC2.

Uhm, I guess I should start posting some of my favorite photos that I actually took.
Ok, I will do that next week!

Are you ready to show me your favorites? Leave me a comment so I can check them out!

Happy 100th, Ian Fleming

Fleming

It's Ian Fleming's 100th birthday, or would have been.  So, be sure to mark the day by giving a sound karate chop to your greatest nemesis at work...right after you tell him/her "we do not tolerate failure, number three."

Ha-Saaaaa, CHOP!

25th day Photos

Take pictures today 508

I have to admit, I totally forgot today was the 25th, so I missed a few of the photo prompts this morning. I'll upload my photos of today, tomorrow to share.

I did scrap my April photos today, so I am up to date as far as the actual project is concerned! (In fact, I am scrapbooking the day away with Emmie! W00T!)

Not sure what this 25th day photo business is? Check out Shimelle's blog.

Favorite {Photo} Friday! (#1)

At work, we call Fridays "favorite Friday". I'm not sure how it started, but we found ourselves rejoicing all week leading up to FAVORITE FRIDAY!, which we would whisper to each other under our breath as we passed each other on our way to the key machine or printer. It's something that stuck and even though we can't remember why, we still refer to Fridays as our "favorite".

So to make Fridays even more special, CathyZ has inspired me to put an album together of my Favorite Photos! What a brilliant idea! I have about 180 photos that really stand out, ones that I really  love from the past 3-4 years and I pretty much used all of them at the Inspired event I attended in April. So once a week (on Fridays, duh!) I'll do a page layout of one of my favorite photos and just for you, I'll post that photo here!! Yay for sharing!

Here is my first Favorite Photo- Fourth of July BBQ at a friend's house in 2006:

Yes, those are my melons.
And you'd be right if you guessed that was Mr. H in the background smirking at me. That's pretty much the way things go... I kinda make an ass out of myself and he kinda stays out of the way and cleans up the carnage later.

I think it's pretty obvious why I love this picture. It's a good one to set the tone for this experiment! I'll have another picture next Friday!

Blackberry and Ginger Trifles

Dscf3716

I love trifles. I LOVE them. I make one every New Year's Day for my annual dinner. I am always on the lookout for new trifle combinations. I made these in April when H and I were housesitting. I got the recipe from the Everyday Food Cookbook, WHICH I ADORE!!  Totally one of my favorite cookbooks ever!
Anyway, I made 4 even though it was only the 2 of us. You can never have enough trifle!

Blackberry & Ginger Trifle
1 piece (3") of ginger- peeled and coarsely chopped
3/4 c sugar
1 store bought pound cake (I used Entemanns)
2 c heavy cream
12 oz fresh blackberries

1. In small saucepan, combine ginger, 1/2 c sugar and 1/2 c water. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Cover the pan and remove from heat; set aside to steep for at least 20 mins, up to 1 hour. (The longer it steeps the stronger the ginger flavor will be)

2. With serrated knife cut pound cake into 1" slices. Lay the slices on waxed paper and with a brush, dab both sides of the slices with the syrup, leaving the chopped ginger behind. Use all the syrup. Cut slices into cubes

3. Whip the cream with the remaining sugar until soft peaks form. In alternating layers, arrange the cake cubes, whipped cream and blackberries in individual serving glasses or dishes (or one large trifle glass). Chill until ready to serve (at least 30 minutes/up to overnight)

(Also, I just noticed in the cookbook that the recipe was actually for 8... oops!! But it does make 4 realllllly generous mini trifles, so enjoy!)

Stuff I bought yesterday

Dscf3908
4 psychedelic notebooks
A post it note pad in the shape of the letter S
A deck of cupcake card recipes!

All for me.
All for $10 bucks!

Food 2.0

Food20

Woah. I got an advance copy of Charlie Ayers's new book Food 2.0. He was the cook who fed Google!
This book showcases some of the things that make me happy. For example, some of his Kitchen Essentials are: "good bread is a must, beer is a happiness item and chocolate is a non-negotiable part of life." Hello? Soul Mate!

He tells you how to be greener, eat fresher and cook smarter. The book is written with a lot of witty catch phrases that make you feel good but also make you think. Ayers believes that every meal is an opportunity to make a difference. With "green" being the new catchphrase you can be sure this book will be a popular draw, but the recipes are things you will actually want to eat. Just flipping through the pages I got tons of ideas for dinners and snacks!

The best idea I read so far was to save bits of cheese leftover from the cheese plate a dinner party and make a "mystery fondue". OMG, duh! Why didn't I think of that? I have a feeling I will be have a lot of lightbulb moments as I sink my teeth deeper into this book.

Over 100 recipes are in this book along with tips and techniques. You can find it on Amazon.com for $16.95 (retail $25) but the publishers were kind enough to give me a FREE copy to raffle off along with a cool Food 2.0 lunchbag!!

So, drop me a comment by Friday, May 9th and I will use the random number generator to choose one of YOU to win the book & lunchbag! Make sure you use a valid email address in your comment so I can contact you to get your mailing address!  The prize you'll win is below! Come on lurkers... comment!
